Schaumburg CCSD 54 Professional Development Center
38,860-SF Addition + 30,300-SF Renovation
Schaumburg CCSD 54 | Schaumburg, IL
A home base for hundreds of teachers built in eight months
Challenge: the district's Early Learning program was scattered across 27 schools employing hundreds of staff, making consistent professional development and curriculum messaging nearly impossible. The district needed the consolidation completed before the next school year began, giving the team just eight months.
Solution: relocate administrative and IT staff into a new office addition, repurpose the original elementary school as half of a new Early Learning Center, and connect old and new construction with a fully enclosed passageway. This created one unified campus that also houses the district's new Professional Development Center; the ELC portion of the campus is separately secured with a vestibule entry, classroom lockdown shades, and a dedicated traffic consultant who designed car and bus drop-off patterns for the surrounding residential streets.
New Professional Development Center includes conference rooms, teaching rooms, and team breakout spaces designed for curriculum development and refinement anchored by a 3,900-sf flexible assembly space that reconfigures from individual small classrooms into one large gathering room.
