Wilmette Junior High School

7,350-SF Renovation

Wilmette PSD 39 | Wilmette, IL

Transforming an aging library into a 21st century learning hub

  • Challenge: The existing library at Wilmette Junior High School no longer reflected how students and teachers actually learn, lacking the collaborative zones, differentiated spaces, and maker-oriented resources that 7th and 8th graders need.

  • Solution: A comprehensive renovation of the existing learning center designed to balance collaborative and multi-zone spaces with the right mix of traditional and digital information resources, supporting group-oriented, project-based learning alongside independent work.

  • New spaces include a presentation studio, tinkering lab, small group rooms, planning rooms, and dedicated storage; breakout rooms with glass walls promote educational transparency and allow staff to monitor activity across the commons

  • Completed as part of a district-wide initiative to renovate and expand learning commons across all schools
